Representative West was honored and humbled to be blanketed at the Community Recognition and Celebration event hosted by the Chicago American Indian Community Collaborative (CAICC)!
Blanketing is accorded special significance in Native American society. A blanketing ceremony shows respect for those who have made an important contribution to the Native American community in some way. The respected guest is draped with special blankets in front of witnesses, and it is theirs to keep. Thank you to CAICC and to my Native American Working Group that helped me to pass the Native American History bill for this honor!
