State Representative Maurice West proudly supported the Rockford Art Museum in securing critical funding for a major climate control renovation, a project that marks a significant investment in the Rockford community. The museum, which has been closed for a year, will reopen on November 14 with a transformed space that enhances the experience for residents and visitors while safeguarding its valuable art collection.
The extensive $8 million renovation included a complete overhaul of the heating, venting, and air conditioning system at Riverfront Museum Park, an upgrade essential to preserving the artwork. The project was largely funded through state grants, with $6 million secured by Representative West, in addition to other state contributions and $100,000 from the city.
"I was a proud advocate for this investment because the Rockford Art Museum attracts visitors and provides opportunities for local families to be exposed to diverse and meaningful artwork,” West stated. “This investment helps improve the quality of life of our community."
With the reopening just days away, the museum’s small, dedicated team is putting the final touches on the gallery space, preparing to welcome the community back to an upgraded and revitalized museum. As pieces return to the walls, the team celebrates this new era for art and culture in Rockford.
