Rockford, IL — August 15, 2025

On 815 Day, State Representative Maurice West joined Rock Valley College leaders, students, and community members to celebrate a major milestone for the new Downtown West Campus. Rep. West participated in the ceremonial signing of the final beam before it was placed, marking an exciting step forward in the $52 million project.

For Rep. West, the moment was about more than construction—it was about investing in Rockford’s future.

“Seeing the final beam lowered into place was a reminder of how much we’re investing in education, opportunity, and the future of Rockford,” West said. “This campus will not only serve as a center of learning, but also as a symbol of what happens when we commit to growth, innovation, and equity for our community.”

The Downtown West Campus is set to host a wide range of programs designed to meet the needs of students and employers alike. Offerings will include adult and early childhood education, criminal justice, human services, truck driving, and automotive technology—with new training in electric vehicle maintenance and collision repair.

Rep. West congratulated Rock Valley College on their vision and commitment, emphasizing how the project will open doors for generations to come.

“I’m proud to support this work,” West added. “Education is one of the greatest investments we can make, and I look forward to seeing how this campus transforms Rockford for years to come.”
