Rep. West to update residents on legislative progress, funding for community priorities, and actions taken to strengthen local communities.
ROCKFORD - State Rep. Maurice West (D-Rockford) announced his upcoming Legislative Update Tour, July 18-20, with opportunities for residents of the 67th District to learn more about recent action in Springfield.
“While I’m away during the legislative session, the needs of the 67th District are always top of mind,” said State Representative Maurice West. “This Legislative Update Tour is a fantastic opportunity for local residents to learn more about the progress we’ve made to strengthen our communities and our state, while also allowing for dialogue about any questions or concerns. I encourage anyone who cares about the future of the Rockford area to join one of the sessions.”
State Rep. West was the chief sponsor of more than 50 bills during the spring legislative session, including eight that passed both chambers of the Illinois General Assembly. Key legislative accomplishments include passing a bill to require Native American history to be taught to Illinois students, expanding paid leave for parents who lose a child, improving the teacher pipeline, and promoting access to free healthy school meals for all Illinois students.
State Rep. West has also been critical in advocating for increased state funding for the Rockford area, including infrastructure upgrades, hospitality and tourism grants, and new funding for job training programs.
